 Referrals

As your primary care office, we will coordinate all of your medical care.   Please consult our office whenever you have questions about your health.   We will be able to guide you regarding appropriate medical treatment.   Your physician will also help you select the proper specialist, if necessary, and coordinate your care with the consulting doctor.

Many times, follow-up care can be provided through our office.  However, if it is medically necessary for continuing care to be provided by a specialist, we will help arrange this for you.   Please make sure that we are aware of any medications that a specialist prescribes for you.  Unless your insurance plan allows you to go directly to a specialist, if you access specialty care without a prior written/transmitted referral you will most likely be responsible for the bill associated with the care.  We are not able to issue retroactive referrals for care already rendered.   We do ask that you give us the courtesy of requesting your referral no less than 3 days prior to your specialist appointment.  If you have any questions regarding referrals, please e-mail us or call our office.  We will be happy to help you.

 Appointments

It is important that you contact us through this website or call first to schedule an appointment when you feel that it is necessary.  This allows us to schedule patients so that each individual has adequate time with the physician.   Accepting “walk-in” patients makes everybody wait longer than necessary.

 Telephone calls to the office

We welcome your phone calls and encourage you to call the office if you have any questions or concerns.   If you have a question for your physician, we will most likely take a message and have him/her call you back during a break in our schedule or at the end of office hours.  This allows the physicians uninterrupted time with all patients.

If you need to make an appointment, our office staff will assist you in doing so.  When you are calling for a sick visit, please call as early in the day as possible, so that we can see you that day.

If you need to cancel an appointment, please call the office as soon as you are able.   Twenty-four hours notice is requested when possible; this allows us to offer the appointment time to another patient.

 Test Results

Our office will call you with any significantly abnormal test results.   If you wish to obtain test results, you may do so by e-mailing us at this website or by calling the office during regular office hours and leaving a message on our voice messaging system (dial ‘5’ when the system answers).  We will respond as quickly as possible.

 Prescription Refills

Please request a prescription refill through this website or call during regularly scheduled office hours.  Please do not wait until the last day of your supply of medication to call the office.  You may leave your request on our voice messaging system (dial ‘4’ when the system answers your call), making sure to follow the directions you will hear.   This will ensure enough time to review your request and phone in your prescription, if indicated.

When calling for a prescription refill, please have the name and phone number of your pharmacy available and the number of pills you are allowed to receive from your insurance plan.

 Urgent Calls

One of our physicians is on call at all times.   If you have an urgent medical problem, call the office immediately.   You may dial ‘0’ to speak to a patient coordinator.  During scheduled office hours, provide your name and a description of the emergency to the patient coordinator

When the office is closed, our answering service will take your call.   Please indicate that you are calling regarding an urgent situation.  The answering service will contact the physician on call immediately.  Our physicians will guide you in your urgent care.

 Emergency Care

What to do in an emergency…

Call us first, if possible (even on weekends and holidays).  However, if you perceive that a delay would be detrimental to your health, seek care at the nearest emergency facility or dial 911 (if your area has emergency response service).

The facility or treating physician should contact us about what has happened when appropriate, so that we can provide information about your medical background, assist with any treatment you may require, and coordinate follow-up care.
